about

Light, bright and full of playfulness – her paintings are quite literally….Joyful.

Working in a warm palette of high contrast hues, Joy’s work celebrates the beautiful Norfolk countryside. “I love walking in the woods, clicking away with my camera, then I paint what I have seen later,” Joy said. “In fact I love the whole experience of painting, from buying the canvas to seeing the finished work. I am quite often seduced by a wondrous paint colour, and that will be my starting point.”

Joy trained at Hornsey Art College, but was discouraged from following art as a profession. Instead she worked in scientific research, then in an office while her children were young. Years later, desperate to do something creative but with little confidence of her artistic talents, she tentatively joined an art evening class. Her passion for painting was immediately rekindled.

Joy moved to Norfolk eight years ago and has painted consistently ever since. “I really owe much of my success to the encouragement and belief I have had from Hilary at the Garden House Gallery,” said Joy. “It has changed my life completely.”

Joy works in a mixture of watercolour and acrylic, and has a number of successful exhibitions under her belt.
